I honestly wasn't a huge fan of fingerless gloves until I made my first pair. A photographer requested for me to make her a pair of fingerless gloves on Etsy, so I thought I'd give it a try. I think what I didn't like about fingerless gloves before was that I thought that they looked like they should be mittens or gloves. So I wanted to knit a pair that actually looked like they were meant to be fingerless.
I decided to knit them flat, instead of in the round, because I thought that they would look less like they were trying to be mittens. My customer wanted cables, so I put one big one in the center that wraps around the hand. I did garter stitch on the edges so that they wouldn't curl.
The finished product turned out great! What I love about them is that they keep your hands warm but allow them to be fully functional - so I can still use the breaks on my bike, text my friends, and dig around in my purse. Now I realize why the photographer wanted them! They are so pragmatic! They are fun to wear, too, because they are so cute and cozy! I've gotten so many compliments on mine and requests from friends to make them a pair!
